Q. Is access to Lake Toya in winter okay?
As a guide, it’s about 2 hours by car from New Chitose Airport and about 2 hours from Sapporo, but winter roads can take longer due to snow and ice. We recommend a rental car fitted with studless winter tyres and a plan with plenty of time to spare. If travelling by JR, it’s about 20 minutes by bus from Toya Station to the onsen town.
